Wednesday's Update

Today has been disappointing in that he still has all the same tubes in him as yesterday and a couple of his meds were increased instead of decreased. He has a fever of 102 and his heart rate is in the 170's so they believe he has an infection and are giving him a different antibiotic than yesterday - one with a broader coverage. His blood pressure has been falling too low and they are playing with his meds to stabilize that. Seems the things they think will make his blood pressure improve don't and then they do something unrelated and he improves. He is still pretty swollen because they push fluids to improve his blood pressure and are not giving him Lasix yet.

It feels like we have been in the hospital for an eternity although it has only been 48 hours since the end of the surgery. I'm feeling pretty anxious and want to be able to hold Matthew again soon. I know he is not a happy camper either cause he keeps stirring and working himself up to a cry (which is not fun to watch when no sound can come out as he has his breathing tube in and there is nothing I can do to calm him). Each time he does this they give him a dose of sedative to calm him down (which ironically has helped his blood pressure increase each time).

Thanks for the continued prayers.
